Now that you've seen my ugly mug, here's how to make your own 6040 cnc aluminum router
Step 1: Get the parts list. You'll need a Makita 4-1/2 hp drill press, which I'm using here. It's the one that came with the router base and slips right over the work piece
Step 2: Build your jig. For this project, I constructed a simple box with a few pieces of scrap wood and some 1/4 inch plywood (to keep it from warping). The jig should hold your work piece securely while you drill and cut it down to size
Step 3: Cut out your base plate for the router. This is where you measure out how wide and tall you want your finished router base to be. Then mark it out on the back side of your work piece so that you can cut it out easily later on with an exacto knife or Dremel tool (I used an exacto knife)
Step 4: Make sure all of your holes are in place before drilling them out! Make sure there aren't any stray bits sticking out when you're drilling into them because they could cause problems later on when assembling everything together correctly.
