This is the story of a man who went on a quest for aluminum parts. The short version: He saved up his dough and had them custom-made in China. Now he's got a million bucks worth of scrap metal
The Long Versio
A New York man named Steve Chen, who used to work at an aluminum factory, started looking for scrap metal in China. In 2007, he traveled to the country and found that there was no shortage of aluminum there 〞 but it was all illegal
There were people who were just buying metal from recycling centers, Chen told Business Insider. They would buy it from other recyclers or from factories that were cleaning up their own scrap
Chen said that he could get high quality aluminum from those sources for $1 per pound. But he wanted something better 〞 like stainless steel. So he started looking around for places that would pay more for it 〞 and eventually came across a company called Alcoa that manufactured it exclusively for its customers in the US.
