Project of the Day: Aluminum Obliteration with CNC Plasma

Aluminum is used in a variety of situations. In this article, I will discuss the process of making an aluminum cutout with CNC plasma, and how it can be used for etching on glass or other materials

Aluminum is a great material to use for cutting because it is lightweight and has a high strength-to-weight ratio. Aluminum also has good corrosion resistance properties and can be easily machined using conventional tools. The downside to using aluminum as a cutting material is that it's not very precise; however, if you are looking at creating something like an etching or engraving pattern, then this isn't too much of an issue

We will be using three different types of equipment: a CNC router, a laser cutter and an air plasma cutter.
