Swords were first made in ancient times as tools for use in battle. This is not a new idea, as it has been around for hundreds of years. It is believed that swords were first developed because of the need to defend oneself from attackers. The first swords were made out of wood and stone by many different cultures throughout the world
The earliest known swords were found in Egypt and Assyria (ancient Middle East). They were made out of copper or bronze, which was soft enough to be bent into any shape without breaking. The earliest examples of these swords date back to 3000 BC, but they did not become popular until much later
The first metal forged by man was a sword, although not closely related to any of the later technologies in this field. It has been suggested that it may have been an act of forging rather than heat forging at first, but even if it was, it was still primitive and crude. The blacksmiths of those days were just working with whatever materials they had at hand. Even so, the ancient smith could produce something that would rival anything crafted today
