I've been working with metal for the past year or so, and during this time I've learned a number of techniques that help me make solid pieces of jewelry. This article will focus on one particular topic: forging metal
So what is forging? In essence, it's creating something from a blank piece of metal. In my case, I'm working with silver and gold, but you can use any type of metal. Depending on the size and thickness of your piece, it may take several hours or even days to create your final product
But first you need to create the object itself. This process involves heating up the metal until it becomes malleable enough to bend into shape without breaking apart again at any point during the process. The key here is not just to heat up your metal but also to prevent it from cooling down too quickly or too slowly so that when you're done shaping it, you have something that's still flexible enough to be bent back into place without breaking again.
