Forges are used for centuries to forge metals, cast iron and steel. They are quiet, efficient, and durable. In this article we will show how you can easily make a homemade metal forge from readily available materials
The first step is to decide what type of metal you want to forge. The most common metals used for making forges are iron and steel. The most common type of iron is cast iron, which is melted down into ingots and then forged using the same process as a traditional metal forge. This type of forge is commonly used by blacksmiths or metal fabricators who need large quantities of cast iron for their business operations. Another type of metal that can be used in making forges is wrought iron. Wrought iron is made by extruding molten pig iron through a die with holes in it that make it easier to manipulate while being shaped into a desired shape (see picture below). Once your desired shape has been created you can use sandpaper or an abrasive belt (like a sander) to smooth out any rough edges that may have been created during the forging process (see picture below)
