The coil for forging is a disk-shaped steel bar with a large number of helical grooves cut into its surface. These helical grooves are designed to act as an interface between the material and the die. The coil is placed on top of the die, which has been heated to a very high temperature. As it cools, it shrinks and contracts in size, forming an indentation in the die. This allows the metal to be pressed into this cavity and solidified once again.
