Step 1: Decide on Your Material
When it comes to all things metalworking, there are two main types of materials: ferrous and non-ferrous. Ferrous metals are those that contain iron or steel within them. Ferrous metals include iron, steel, cast iron and wrought iron. Non-ferrous metals include aluminum, brass, bronze and copper. In general, non-ferrous metals can be melted into a liquid form at higher temperatures than ferrous metals can be melted into a liquid form at higher temperatures due to their lower melting points (typically between 1300~C and 1500~C). So if you want to melt down your first piece of scrap metal into usable shapes then non-ferrous is what we're going for
