The idea for the Acura RDD coupe was born from the desire to build a fun, convertible that could deliver the same performance and handling characteristics of the NSX sports car – but with a lower price tag. The supercar-inspired design of this concept was previewed in a concept car called the Vigor, which made its debut at the 1998 Detroit Auto Show
The RDD would have been a four-door version of Honda*s flagship sports car, which in theory would have cost around $70,000. The Vigor also had a unique rear suspension design that allowed for extreme amounts of downforce while maintaining excellent handling characteristics. The concept also featured active aerodynamics that were intended to improve cooling efficiency by using air flow management through holes cut into the body panels and an active diffuser mounted under each front fender.
