Forged metal is a product of heat and hammering. The process starts when the metal is heated to its point of oxidation, but at a lower temperature than it would normally be heated. The metal is then hammered into shape, usually with a hammer or mallet. Since the mid 1800s, many different metals have been forged
Forging has been used since ancient times to create objects such as tools and weapons. Forging was used on swords because they were difficult to produce by other methods. Swords needed to have a sharp edge and could not be made from softer materials like bronze or iron because they would break easily during use. Swordsmiths also had to be able to shape the blade in order for it to fit properly inside the scabbard (the part that goes over the shoulder).
