I've been thinking about how to forge metal and came up with a few synaonyms for the process
The first is pinning which is the process of heating a piece of metal until it's hot enough to hold itself together and then allowing it to cool slowly. If you want something that's not quite as brittle as copper wire but still ductile enough for working, this is probably what you want. This also means that there will be some residual stress in your workpiece which can be used to make things like springs or gears
Another thing that I thought of was annealing. Annealing is simply heating your metal to a certain temperature, letting it cool very slowly, and then quenching the metal by dunking it in water or oil (depending on what your material is). In most metals annealing is the first step before forging, though some people prefer doing it after forging so they can control just how hard their material gets during forging
Lastly there's forging. Forging involves heating up a piece of metal until it glows red hot and then hammering it into shape by repeatedly striking a tool against it at various angles with
