While the basic concept of a bed frame is simple and straightforward, there are many types of beds that can be made from forges. A drop-forged bed frame is one of the most common examples, consisting of a large steel bar that has been shaped into a bed shape by dropping it into a bath of molten metal. The process works by forging long strips of varying types of steel together in a bath of molten metal
The most common type of forging used to manufacture drop-forged beds is called hot-rolled or strip-rolling. This involves rolling sheets of steel into long strips using special equipment known as rollers. Once they have been rolled, they are then pushed through dies which form them into shapes such as bars, angles and angles with flats or slots on each end. They are then cooled and cut into pieces which are then welded together at their ends to create the final product – a bed frame!
