Forged metals have a specific shape that is formed in a press, while powder metals are produced by mixing various elements together. The technique used to make them differs as well, but not all forging techniques are suitable for making all types of parts
Forging can be done on both flat and irregular surfaces, but it's more useful on flat surfaces because it allows you to produce complex shapes with relatively little material. The same cannot be said of grinding, which requires much more material than forging and produces only simple shapes.
