The Museum of the City of New York is the largest museum in the United States devoted exclusively to documenting the history of the city. The Museum's collection consists of more than 40,000 artifacts, including photographs, paintings, drawings, maps, manuscripts and other objects that tell the unique history of our great city
The Museum also houses an extensive research library of more than 10,000 books and periodicals about New York City as well as a research center for scholars interested in studying local history. The Museum's mission is to collect, preserve and make accessible to the public artifacts that document New York City's past; educate visitors about its unique culture and history; preserve its architectural heritage; and promote appreciation of its present form.
