What is forging metal
Forging is a process that melts metal, placed in a forging die, and then cools it. The resulting shape of the piece is controlled by the amount of pressure applied to the material during cooling
The basic parts of a forging process are heating and cooling. During heating, the metal is heated so that it expands and contracts with applied pressure (as in compression). During cooling, the metal contracts, which results in an increase in pressure on one side and a decrease on the other side as heat flows away from hot spots (the areas where there was more heat). This pressure difference causes deformation of the material.
