Metal weapons were used as far back as ancient times. Bronze was the most common metal used for weaponry, but later on iron was introduced and soon replaced bronze by about 1500 BC in Europe (this is also when Iron Age began). The first known use of iron in warfare was during the invasion of Egypt by Assyria in 1200 BC where it was used against chariots and horses. Later on, iron swords made their way into China where they were used as part of military campaigns against other countries like Japan (for more information about this era check out this article). In addition to these two cultures, there were many others who also developed their own specific forms of warfare using metals for weaponry such as Persia which used brass weapons and India which used copper weapons.
