Forge metal and steel at the correct temperatures
The forge must be hot enough for the metal to melt, but not so hot that it will start to burn. If you are working with a large piece of steel or iron, a metal-burning torch may be used to heat the metal. The torch is lit and then moved around the metal until it is glowing red in areas where it is being heated. The metal should begin to glow red before it begins to melt, but if this does not happen, then the temperature needs to be higher
If you are working with a large piece of steel or iron and using a metal-burning torch, make sure that there is plenty of water available so that when your object cools down, it can be quenched in water without burning up too much more of its surface area than necessary.
