In this article I'll list the 5 most common metal types and provide an overview of these metals
The first group is iron and steel. Iron is an alloy of iron, carbon, and other elements. Steel is an alloy of iron with other elements such as manganese
The second group is copper (Cu). Copper is a soft metal that conducts electricity well. It has a silvery appearance and a reddish color when polished. It can be used to make alloys with other metals such as bronze (Cu), brass (Cu), or nickel-silver (Ni/Ag)
The third group is aluminum (Al). Aluminum is lightweight, ductile, malleable and highly reflective. Its ability to conduct electricity makes it useful in making electrical equipment such as wires and cables, food cans, packaging materials and aircraft parts
The fourth group are zinc alloys which include galvanized steel (Zn), stainless steel (Zn) and brass (Zn). Galvanized steel has zinc added to its composition for corrosion prevention purposes. Stainless steel contains chromium for increased resistance against corrosion by oxygen at high temperatures. Brass contains copper for better strength
