In this article, I will share my top 5 powdered metals and explain how they're used in forging
1. Manganese
Manganese is used in alloys to strengthen steel while maintaining a ductile, malleable microstructure. It improves toughness and lowers carbon content of the alloy. Manganese is often added to steels to help with machining, wear resistance, and corrosion resistance
2. Silicon
Silicon is an essential element for alloying with metals because it improves the strength and wear resistance of steel alloys. Silicon also reduces nitrogen content of the alloy, making it more resistant to corrosion than steels without silicon additions. Silicon is often added to high-carbon steels to increase toughness and reduce brittleness during heat treatment (forging). Silicon can also be used in cast iron alloys to reduce brittleness during casting operations or during quenching from high-temperature metalworking fluids that contain sulfur compounds that react with silicon carbide particles in the metalwork piece being casted into shape (forging).
