Introduction: Metal forging is a sub-process of metal processing and smelting. It involves the physical processes involved with shaping, forming or flattening the surface of raw material by heating it in a furnace with controlled atmosphere conditions
The most common metals used for forging are carbon and low alloy steels, copper alloys, aluminium alloys and stainless steel. Forging can be done on the anvil or by hydraulic presses. The process of forging involves heating up the work piece to be done until it reaches a certain temperature whereupon it is allowed to cool down slowly. This process allows for more control over the final shape of the product produced.
