The milling process is an essential manufacturing process in which one or more rigs can be used to remove material from the surface of a component so that it can be machined further. Milling machines can be used for many different types of parts and materials, including metal, wood and plastic. To operate efficiently, each machine must be designed with the correct amount of rigidity and force to meet the demands of its application
Milling machines are typically powered by an electric motor connected to a hydraulic pump to provide hydraulic pressure at the tool tips. The rig is also comprised of a set of spindles which rotate in opposite directions as they travel down each side of the tooling bed. This allows the spindle to move back and forth through its stroke while rotating with respect to its position on the bed.
