Surface finishing is the final step in a manufacturing process. It can take place during any stage of production, but it's most commonly used for finishing and polishing the finished parts. Surface finishing can also be done on raw materials to improve their properties or to change their shape. For example, surface finishing may take place during casting to create a smooth round shape or during welding to create an internal cavity
In general, there are three types of surface finishing
Preparation - This step involves removing scratches from raw material surfaces, applying lubricants and other treatments, and heating materials so they flow together more easily
Polishing - The polishing step removes scratches from polished surfaces by using abrasives and polishing compounds
Finishing - This step consists of applying a number of different materials and finishes to produce a specific result.
