In January 2016, a team of engineers and designers completed the world's first living 3D printed plastic monstrosity cnc machine using a process called fused deposition modeling. The culmination of this research led to the creation of an 8 foot tall sculpture that can be downloaded and printed using a desktop computer
The sculpture is made from a combination of ABS plastic and an industrial grade printer that was modified to create the material instead of printing it
The team behind the project is part of MIT's Media Lab and includes members from both MIT's School of Architecture and Planning, as well as its Computer Science and Artificial Intelligence Laboratory (CSAIL).
