The CNC taper turning formula is an efficient way to make a taper turned edge without getting a gouge in your work piece. A smooth, tidy cut will come out of your work piece using this formula
The formula below is for a 6-on-6 taper with a 1/4" radius and 5/8" width
1. Start with a drill bit that is 5/8" in diameter and 7/16" deep, which will leave you with an outside diameter of 1/2"
2. Cut the first 1/2" off of one side of the blank and then flip it over so you are now working on the other side. This will give you two cut pieces that are identical in size but different lengths due to the thickness of your drill bit being different than another drill bit with the same size pitch diameter.
