CNC turning isn't simply a service. It's more of an art, and one that turns out some truly unique pieces. Below I'll discuss my recent experience in creating a new custom piece, as well as the equipment used to transform just about anything into a one-of-a-kind work of art
The CNC machine is a "computer numerical control" machine that can control the center point on any object. This allows for incredibly precise cuts, and has been used in many industries such as aerospace, automotive, and medical device manufacturing. The process involves using software to design your project, then cutting it on the CNC machine itself
The process begins with designing your project using CAD software (Computer Aided Design). The software allows you to create an image of your design and import it into the computer. Once it's there you can edit it however you want; but if you're going to be doing any kind of work with metal or wood this will be extremely helpful
Once your design is finalized it will need to be cut into pieces which are called "slices". These slices will then be sent off to the machine where they'll be attached together using bolts or screws depending on what material you've chosen for your project
