This is a guide about how I'm turning my ferrule for the CNC lathe. The goal is to make it so that when you spin your bearing, it can spin without binding and without catching on the inside of the spindle housing. That way, you can use a smaller spindle and get more life out of your bearings
The first thing you need to do is make sure that your collet has enough clearance around it. If not, then you'll have problems with your bearings binding and jamming in your collet. I found out that my collet had too much clearance because I tried to make it tighter by adding more shims to it (I had previously removed some)
To make sure that I had enough clearance, I used a piece of wood as a jig and measured from one side of my collet to another on opposite sides of the wood piece (using a ruler). Then, I used this information to cut out two new pieces of wood that were about the same size as each other (but not too close together). This allowed me to use one piece as a template for cutting out three more pieces for use in turning my ferrule.
