The Difference Between CNC and Turnin
There have been some arguments about what exactly is the difference between CNC and turning, so I've decided to write this article as a direct comparison of both methods of manufacturing
Turning is a much more traditional process that was used in the past to make parts out of wood, metal or plastic. A lathe uses fixed tools to shape the material being turned. The tool has a cutting edge that is either made from steel or hardened steel, and this is what cuts the material. The tool is then moved along by hand until it reaches the end of its rotation, at which point it stops and then returns to its starting position
CNC stands for computer numerical controlled machine. It's an automated manufacturing technology that allows manufacturers to produce parts with a high level of precision using computer-controlled machinery with moving parts. CNC machines are used for making components such as gears, gearshafts, fans and pumps; they're also used in industries such as aerospace engineering, automotive manufacturing and furniture design where precision is required.
