CNC machining is a method of using a computer numerical control or CNC machine to machine a material or part. This allows for precision, high speed, and accuracy in manufacturing. CNC machining is also used for complex shapes and parts that are difficult to machine with other methods such as manual machining
CNC machines are similar to manual mills in that they use cutting tooling such as routers, saws and drills. However, unlike manual mills where the cutting tooling is stationary and moves along the surface of the material (pitch), CNC machines move their cutting tools along a guideway which is usually directly above the workpiece. The motion of the tooling can be controlled by means of servo motors or stepper motors which allow very precise positioning and movement of the tooling
CNC machining has many advantages over traditional machining methods such as milling, turning or boring because it allows for faster production rates at improved quality levels compared to these traditional methods.
